Artist statement
I am researching and exploring intimacy between people and getting healed by the print I have made to react grief from personal memory. In the project, beard is my main drawing draft before a printing process, which came from an initial idea of losing someone and hope of intimate relationship in the deepper mind. I print the beard with stone lithography and do visible mending after the creative printing.
During this term, I do experiments to deeper and think farer of the project such as paper and scale exploring, colour of lithography and push my drawing image of expressing repair and healing to the prints. Tracing paper, rice paper and Japanese paper are the materials that I explore at the moment.
On the other hand, I focus on how to develop the beard to a scar from a burn injury and print these as my crucial elements. These two images are the main elements in the project to express grief, losing and memory. The relationship between these two could be seen in the ‘your beard and my scar’ serious prints and supporting drawing works. I am dealing with previous grief, worrying, dream of future and healing by the project. Through the slow printing process, I think, mend and question the power of phantasy from past to dream the future.
