Artist statement
My work is focused on repairing grief from the past and memory with drawing and stone lithograph. Old trauma is the idea I started to explore intimacy between people as losing my dad years ago. I tend to make things from the missing and worry to lose to deal with separation. Beside, I experiment relationship between intimacy and healing in the project.
I draw and print the images to calm down myself from anxiety of losing or remember the intimacy I had experienced. There are two features that I use the most, one is the beard and the other is my scar on the hand. The bread is not only for mental health, also if I am close enough to someone, I could feel just like physical distance. The scar came from a fainting accident which I must be repaired for a long time. Making these two together in the works to go further and deeper.
Currently I am working on small suite of beard and facial hair with colour stone lithograph. Some of them are on the head, some of them are from side face and from chin. I print the hair and beard in the same location where they are on the face and do visible mending on it. I am considering deal with grief and trauma in a gentle way. While I express the side face and reverse side facial hair, I question that power of intimacy and the reason for hard to deal with separation.
